IOWA, KANSAS, & NEBRASKA KICK OFF COACHES' CHALLENGE
The National Mentoring Partnership has identified 15 million youth in need of a mentor. Thousands of these youth live in Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska. In an effort to help close the gap, University of Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz, Iowa State Coach Paul Rhoads, University of Northern Iowa Coach Mark Farley, University of Nebraska Coach Bo Pelini, Kansas State Coach Bill Snyder, and Kansas University Coach Charlie Weis have issued a friendly challenge to see which state can recruit the most new mentors.
Annual Parade to Kick-Off 2012 Iowa State Fair
The 2012 Iowa State Fair Parade is set Wednesday, August 8. The Parade will begin at 6:15 p.m. in downtown Des Moines and is the annual kick-off to the Fair, which runs August 9-19.
Former Iowa State Fair Board Member Don Greiman will lead as Parade Marshal. Greiman served on the Board for 44 years and was Fair board president two times prior to retiring in 2009.

For four weeks, Maple 7 is working with the Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity in Des Moines, Iowa helping to prepare homes for families to move in to. The NCCC team is work on a number of different homes during their time in Des Moines, some of which will be new construction and some that will be rehab homes.

Kirkwood Hires Three Deans after Nationwide Searches
Kirkwood Community College has three new deans in place for the fall 2012 semester. Milford Muskett, Jimmy Reyes and Lori Woeste were hired after three national searches.
Muskett is the new Social Sciences and Career Options dean at Kirkwood. He comes from Shoreline Community College, Shoreline, WA, where he was the assistant dean of Social Sciences, and a professor of American Indian Studies, and Equity and Social Justice.
